With no single word of text or dialogue throughout the entire game, Teslagrad keeps its cards very close to its chest: opening in a rain-soaked city, you are a small, nameless boy – a ‘Teslamancer’ – who can manipulate the twin forces of electricity and magnetism. As the last of your kind, explore the mysterious metropolis and, eventually, the Tesla Tower, to discover a terrible truth about a tyrannical king who once ruled the nation.
As you venture through this archaic, European-inspired world, dodging and drubbing its dangerous denizens, be prepared to flex your mental muscles – solve devious puzzles by using your powers to manipulate the environment, including switching the negative or positive charge of blocks and platforms to open up pathways, and reach new areas. Opposite polarity makes the targets attract, whereas similar polarity makes them repel. Give yourself a specific polarity to ride charged energy tubes, floating side-to-side, or circumventing crackling, electrical barriers designed to zap you! Polarise nearby critters, then send them off down small gullies and alcoves in order to affect otherwise-unreachable objects. By the time your reach the first of the hulking, industrial bosses, your electromagnetic prowess will be second nature! Keep pressing on, and pick up new items for more powers, such as a short-distance teleport to span greater gaps, then hunt down enigmatic scrolls that may hold the key to future events. With later puzzles reaching fiendish levels of difficulty, you’ll need to employ trial-and-error to successfully traverse the tower, especially as traps and creatures will do away with you in a single hit! Razor-sharp ingenuity and flawless logic are your sword and shield in this deep, mysterious place.
With over a hundred levels of retro, 2D platforming set in a non-linear world, plus Machiavellian puzzles galore, your mental and physical reflexes will be tested to capacity in Teslagrad, available to download from Nintendo eShop on Wii U.

De game bevat geen enkele tekst of dialoog, wat alleen maar bijdraagt aan de mysterieuze sfeer. In een regenachtige stad dool je rond als klein jongetje zonder naam. Je bent de laatst overgebleven Teslamancer, die zowel elektriciteit als magnetisme naar zijn hand kan zetten. Het is jouw taak om de geheimzinnige metropool te verkennen en de Tesla Tower te beklimmen, om zo de gruwelijke waarheid te achterhalen over een tirannieke koning die ooit de scepter zwaaide over het land.
Terwijl je deze ouderwets aandoende wereld verkent en de gevaarlijke inwoners op je pad ontwijkt of aftuigt, moet je het nodige denkwerk verrichten. Los duivelse puzzels op door je krachten te gebruiken om de omgeving te beïnvloeden, bijvoorbeeld door de positieve of negatieve lading van blokken en platformen om te wisselen. Zo kun je nieuwe doorgangen vormen en onbekende gebieden ontdekken. Voorwerpen met een verschillende lading trekken elkaar aan, terwijl ze elkaar afstoten als ze dezelfde lading hebben. Geef jezelf een positieve of juist een negatieve lading om door elektromagnetische buizen te reizen of om elektrische barrières te omzeilen die bedoeld zijn om jou een kopje kleiner te maken. Geef ongedierte een magnetische lading en gebruik de dieren om voorwerpen te magnetiseren waar je zelf niet bij kunt. Tegen de tijd dat je het opneemt tegen de eerste gigantische, mechanische eindbaas, voelen je elektromagnetische krachten aan als een tweede natuur.
Geef niet op en zoek nieuwe voorwerpen om extra krachten te verzamelen. Teleporteer jezelf over korte afstanden en zoek geheimzinnige boekrollen die mogelijk van vitaal belang zijn voor gebeurtenissen in de toekomst. De puzzels die je tegenkomt, worden steeds moeilijker, dus je moet continu experimenteren om de toren verder te beklimmen. De valstrikken en wezens die je de weg versperren, kunnen je immers in een oogwenk van het leven beroven! Een vlijmscherpe geest en nuchtere logica zijn je beste wapens in deze raadselachtige omgeving.
In de meer dan honderd retrolevels die je in deze niet-lineaire 2D-platformgame tegenkomt, en de talrijke machiavellistische puzzels die je moet oplossen, worden je mentale en fysieke reflexen op de proef gesteld als nooit tevoren.
