Activision 表示，《變形金剛 3》遊戲將會帶領玩家進入地球上的史詩戰役，這些戰役未來將與電影的事件相關。此次遊戲加入了匿蹤能力，玩家將駕駛全新遊戲玩法的變形金剛，感受新玩法的力量，遊戲背景將設定在包括南美叢林、西伯利亞的軍事設施、底特律的城市等，玩家將扮演變形金剛來拯救人類。玩家也可以透過線上多人模式，選擇個人喜愛的變形金剛，來與玩家進行線上對抗或合作。
在此次新作中，玩家不僅扮演博派一方儘全力阻止狂派的行動，也可以扮演狂派一方，徹底完成瘋狂的任務，玩家可從三個具特色的機體中，依據機殼及獨特的武器等元件來創造一台專屬自己的機器人角色。玩家可以從每一場任務中賺取經驗值，以升級機器人角色，或是解鎖新的角色技能或能力。
