本作は、昼は脚を駆使した超高速アクション、夜は腕を駆使した格闘&アスレチックアクションに変化する超音速&パワフルアドベンチャー。「ソニックステージ」操作時はWiiリモコンを振るだけで加速し、フォワードビューとサイドビューがシームレスに切り替わる。
また、「アクションチェインシステム」によってアクションをつなげるほど速度が上がり、特殊ギミックへのアクセスも可能になる。
