Samen met de originele host, Xzibit, van het programma ga je de straten van Pimp City op om je homies uit te dagen en hun auto's om toveren in een gepimpte auto.
In elke missie zal Xzibit je voorstellen aan een bewoner van Pimp City waarvan zijn of haar auto (en leven) gepimpd moet worden. Elke persoonlijkheid die je ontmoet zal een andere auto hebben die jij moet verzorgen. Je kunt succes boeken door zo goed mogelijk de stijl, voorkeuren en interesses in hun wagen terug te laten komen. Hierbij kun je alle onderdelen van hun auto onderhanden nemen, zowel van binnen als van buiten. Als je klaar bent met het pimpen dan kun je contact op nemen met Xzibit, die je creatie zal tonen aan de deelnemer.
Tijdens het pimpen van de auto's heb je een gigantische variatie aan onderdelen die je kunt gebruiken. Of het nu 32 inch banden zijn, een dik geluidssysteem of een kleurrijke verfbeurt. Geheel in de Pimp My Ride stijl heb je ook de keuze uit een aantal onderdelen die je niet zo vaak tegen komt in auto's.
Naast het pimpen van auto's kun je ook de weg op gaan en racen. Je kunt je eigen auto's pimpen en daarmee verschillende shops bezoeken in Pimp City. Je hebt zelf de keuze waar je heen gaat en kunt je eigen shortcuts kiezen, maar hierbij moet je wel binnen de tijdslimiet blijven. Andere shops waar je langs komt kunnen ook rivalen zijn. Zij pimpen dezelfde auto's als jou en hierbij moet jij proberen als beste uit de strijd te komen.
