Het spel gaat over een ongeluk in Jacutan Archipelago dat het leven van Jack Carver voor altijd heeft veranderd. In het spel zijn een grote variatie aan wapens aanwezig die je in de gevechten in de jungle zult gebruiken. Zo kan je onopvallend de nek van een vijand van achteren doorsnijden of een frontale aanval starten met je machinegeweer op zak. Net als in andere Far Cry delen kun je gebruik maken van meerdere voertuigen, waaronder ATV’s, hovercrafts, jet ski’s en trucks.
